Courtney with Her Hands Crossed over Her Leg, 16×20, Soft Pastel on Board, 3/31/2012
Courtney Reclined, 16×20, Soft Pastel on Board, 3/24/2012
A new model has been coming to the Palette & Chisel lately. She’s a delightful model named Courtney and is solid as stone when she does her long poses. Her style along with her story is very interesting and unique. Courney is an aspiring stylist and photographer by day and a cocktail waitress by night. She wears a white wig during because a hair style went awry and her natural hair is growing out, and she wears mismatched stockings with a black ruffled slitted skirt and long black coat to our early morning sessions.
The lower painting was executed on March 24th, 2012 at the Palette and Chisel, and it is of Courtney reclined. The folds in the cloth on which she lies on are rendered very loose and lively. The contrast between the white and violet cloth cuts the composition in a dramatic, angular way, and the focus of the composition, Courtney’s lying body, is towards the top which adds to the drama.
The first image done on March 31st, 2012 is of Courtney facing the viewer with her hands crossed over holding her leg. It is a gentle pose that reveals the model’s vulnerability. This one is much more focused on Courtney’s face, arms, and chest, which differs from the elegant lines in the previous painting. It is much more about the model’s expression and body language, where the previous is more about the the body’s elegant lines and composition.
